St. Petersburg (Sports Network) - Will Power won his second consecutive IZOD IndyCar Series race by taking Monday's rain-delayed Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Power, who won the season-opener two weeks ago in Brazil, put on a dominating performance in the second-half of the 100-lap event on the St. Petersburg street circuit. The Team Penske driver took the lead for the final time when he passed E.J. Viso after Viso suffered a gear box issue with 23 laps remaining.

The 29-year-old Aussie had a flawless weekend at St. Petersburg by capturing the pole, leading the way in all three practices and then notching the win.

"We're out to win the championship," said Power, who claimed his third career IndyCar win. "We had perfect pit stops, a good race and a perfect weekend with a pole and a win. You can't get much better than that."

Power became the first driver to win the first two IndyCar races of the season since Sam Hornish Jr. accomplished the feat in 2001. Hornish won his first of three series titles that year.

One year ago, Power drove Helio Castroneves' car to a sixth-place finish at St. Petersburg. Power substituted for Castroneves, who was in the tail end of his federal income tax evasion trial at the time.

Power returned to the series as one of Penske's three full-time drivers this season after suffering back injuries in a practice crash at Sonoma, California last August.

Justin Wilson broke a podium sweep for Penske with a second-place finish for Dreyer and Reinbold Racing. Ryan Briscoe, who won last year's race at St. Petersburg, finished third, while his Penske teammate Castroneves took the fourth spot.

Wilson kept within a second of Power during the final 15 laps.

"We were trying to make the most of it and pushing hard, and everybody on the team did a great job on that last pit stop," Wilson said. "That put us in the best position, and from then on, I was just trying to put Will in some kind of pressure. I could see him sideways a few times, but just not enough to get a run."

Dario Franchitti, the defending series champion, overcame a spin on the opening lap and then charged six positions in the final 11 laps to finish fifth. His Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon was not as fortunate. He had to pit for a new front wing in the early going when he made contact with Vitor Meira. Dixon's race came to an end after he slammed into the outer wall on lap 73.

"I clipped the inside wall in [turn] nine, and it threw me into the exterior there and damaged the car pretty bad," Dixon said. "Two mistakes on my part and unfortunately no points."

Alex Tagliani finished sixth, while Danica Patrick rallied from a starting position deep in the field to claim the seventh position. Raphael Matos, Graham Rahal, driving an entry for Sarah Fisher Racing, and Tony Kanaan completed the top-10.

On lap 46, Dan Wheldon experienced a mechanical issue before making heavy contact with Mario Moraes as they headed into the first turn. Wheldon slammed into Moraes and then made hard contact with the outer barrier. Both drivers were not injured, but Wheldon complained of some soreness after the incident.

"It was one of those kind of big hits," Wheldon said. "I sorry to [Moraes' team] for hitting him, but I probably got lucky on that one."

The race was scheduled for Sunday, but heavy rain forced Indy Racing League officials to postpone it one day. The downpour created standing water measuring several inches on certain portions of the 1.8-mile circuit. The track had dried in time for the start of the event.
